Get Involved/Grow in Faith

Koinonia
The koinonia retreat weekend is an experience in Christian community based on the Paschal mystery of the Lord Jesus, His life, Death, and Resurrection. Themes for these three days include Lent, Easter, and Pentecost. The retreat consists of talks, discussions, reflections, prayer and celebrations of the Sacraments of Penance and Eucharist. Though the Retreat is offered from a Catholic perspective, non-Catholics are welcome to attend.

Four Koinonia Retreats are offered each academic year. Two in the fall semester and two in the spring semester.

SJO (Service and Justice Outreach)
Our Service and Justice Outreach ministry (SJO) is a great opportunity to live Christ's gospel in service to others.  Throughout the year there are numerious events you can get involved in, including the annual "run for justice," fundraisers for the poor, and the hunger banquet, among others.  There are also weekly opportunities to serve alongside others, such as the weekly help at soup kitchens and the Illini Heritage nursing home.

FOCUS (Fellowship of Catholic University Students)
FOCUS is a national organization which works on college campuses to help students grow in faith and virtue.  The six full-time missionaries who serve the students at the University of Illinois lead Bible studies, host large-group events, and find other ways to reach out to the campus community, such as their efforts in one-on-one mentoring (or "discipleship").

The goal of FOCUS is to build a Christian culture one individual at a time. Please come visit the FOCUS office at Newman Hall to meet the missionaries or learn about how to get involved!
